Something we Aussie’s and most foodies have known for sometime – Sydney is fast becoming one of the world’s great culinary capitals, thanks to the skill of leading chefs such as Peter Gilmore, Tetsuya Wakuda, Neil Perry and Guillaume Brahimi. There really are too many to list, so I have highlighted a few of my favorites and have asked Sydney Tastemakers for their picks too.

ICEBERGS – hardly new, but still one I always visit each time I am in Sydney. The restaurant is the ideal perch for overlooking Bondi Beach. Aqua and mauve interiors are done by Australian designer Carl Pickering and Mediterranean menus by acclaimed chefs Robert Marchetti and Sara-Jane Quadara. If you can’t get in, try the more casual, yet equally popular, SEAN’S PANAROMA across the way, where the menu features local produce from owner Sean Moran’s farm.

If you really want to have bragging rights from your trip to Sydney, join late-night locals and taxi drivers outside of HARRY’S CAFÉ DE WHEELS, one of the oldest and most popular food trucks in the So. Hemisphere. I always make it a pit stop after a big night out, before I get back to the hotel. My favourite (and the signature dish): meat pies piled high with mushy peas, mash & gravy… believe me, at 2am it’s just what the doctor ordered.
